Stars and Stripes Beach Volleyball

Stars and Stripes Beach Volleyball trains elite female athletes ages 18 and under.

Our goal is for Stars and Stripes Beach Volleyball athletes to develop their love of beach volleyball while focusing on their core skill development and decision making.

We challenge our athletes to grow as people and as players. Stars and Stripes aims to empower young athletes to become leaders on and off the court.

Why Choose Stars and Stripes

We believe the program we have established for this year will benefit all SAS athletes. We expect that all players will be challenged and given the space, tools and attention they need to improve their game.

SAS Roots is geared toward athletes in 5th-7th grade and looks to train up talented younger athletes in the sport of beach volleyball.

At tryouts, the coaches will determine if a 5th-7th grade athlete is a good fit for SAS Roots. If a player needs more experience, the coaches will recommend the Beach Club at Highline Arena as a way to continue playing beach volleyball.

SAS Roots info like fees and practice schedule can be found on the SAS Roots page. Tryouts will be held in conjunction with the regular SAS tryouts the week of August 14th.

Who can try out?
SAS is open to evaluating elite female athletes ages 10-18 for the 2023-2024 team and SAS Roots. Athletes should have indoor or beach volleyball experience and be performing at a high level for their age group.

What are you looking for in an athlete? How many players do you take for each age group?
We don't take a set number of athletes per age group. We take as many or as few athletes per grad year that fit the type of player we are looking for. Coaches will evaluate players based on their volleyball fundamentals and overall athleticism, but that is not the whole picture! SAS is proud of the culture we have cultivated and want athletes/families who will be a good fit. Coaches will also pay attention to:

  • Attitude
  • Behavior
  • Coachability
  • Competitiveness
  • Communication Skills
  • Parent Interactions
  • Responsibility
  • Sportsmanship
  • Team Player

Can I play indoor while playing SAS?
We strongly advise against this. Beach volleyball can help your indoor game, however there are many aspects of the game that are different. Going back and forth multiple times per week can make it challenging for the athlete to develop their beach game. Some other things to consider include athlete burn out, cost, practice/tournament conflicts and how much volleyball your family can feasibly handle. It sounds like a great idea in October, but gets very challenging in February when travel tournaments start to pick up. There will be no discounts, fee reductions or refunds for missed practices.

What happens if I miss practice?
SAS is different from the indoor model. We focus on individual training, so the only athlete that is affected if you do not come is YOU. There will be no discounts, fee reductions or refunds for missed practices.

Do I have to play in the tournaments? When are they? How does it work?
Tournaments are optional, but recommended. SAS will send coaches to approximately 5-6 tournaments throughout the season. Travel/entry fees are not included in the SAS fee. A tentative schedule, along with more details will be sent out to all athletes who are offered a spot on the team.

What if I don't have a partner?
SAS practices are designed for individual training, so you do not need to tryout with a partner in mind.

Is it too late for me to switch to beach volleyball?
No! Let's have a conversation about your goals if you are new to the game!

How will I know if I make the team?
You will receive an offer letter via email if we think you will be a good fit for SAS or SAS Roots.

What if I don't make the team?
Athletes who need more experience will be notified via email and are welcome to join the Beach Club practices at Highline Arena!

I have more questions!
The SAS 2023-2024 Parent/Player Handbook will be sent out to all athletes who make the team. This will answer a lot of your questions! You can also touch base with Meghan ( to answer additional questions.
